to defrag your hard-drive. This is generally

then to defragment your HDD (Hard Disc
Drive) makes sense every month. But if you
just use your pc to get email, blog or search for stuff then
you only need to de-fragment the files and directories once
a year. This gambit is often used by computer service, "professionals"
to make you believe that; Phew!
- all is now well after a "defrag"
!
In fact, if you have a very fragile hard-drive with several
read/write errors that should really be replaced ASAP, a defrag
is the quickest way to terminally prove that you truly do need
to replace it! And, we never
attempt to de-fragment SSD's (Solid State
Hard-Drives) because it is unnecessary and will shorten their
lifespan.
We do de-fragment
the data on a regular hard-drive as part of your computer support

Preventative disk-drive maintenance can help delay the onset
of disc failure and can give early warning of an impending failure.

Re-formatting your hard drive is our absolute last resort and
there is no point doing that and then re-installing your computer
operating system if the HDD is, "on-the-way-out" and needs replacing.

A noisy computer is irritating
isn't it? Having a loud and noisy computer is generally
annoying and moreover, can interrupt your concentration, big-time!
What can and does happen is that
the computer chip controlling the fan speed gets worn-out and develops a fault so
it might be that your computer fans or fan are full-on
full-blast all of the time. Also, computer fans do physically wear-out.
Over the years, the fan bearings inside a fan get worn and
this can cause vibration which equates to increased audible
noise.
Usually, fans which control the
temperature of the power supply unit (the PSU) run at a
constant speed throughout the life of the computer. They can
get noisy as they get older (5 years plus ...) We can supply and fit a new fan
that's quiet.
Revving computer processor unit (cpu) fans !
They are bloody
annoying!
What happens is that when you load-up your
computer with work, let's say a virus scan, plus a picture
slide-show and something else, your central computer
processor chip needs more energy (electricity) to cope. This
makes that chip run hotter and in turn, the fancy embedded (usually)
temperature control unit in your pc speeds-up the fan to
extract the heat from the cpu. Super! But what a noise
"woowing" and
"whirring"
it's way up and down from 1000rpm to
6000rpm continually. Not necessary! As long the cpu fan
keeps the cpu below 50 degrees centigrade, all is well.
So, fit a good-quality and quiet fan turning at around 3000rpm and
that will be perfect in most domestic operating environments.
